South Carolina Ports Authority (SCPA) Board Chairman William H. "Bill" Stern is president and CEO of Stern Group, a commercial real estate and investment company which owns and manages real estate throughout the Southeastern United States. Stern has been with the firm for over 35 years, and during that time he has also dedicated a great deal of time to public and community service. Stern was awarded the Order of the Palmetto, the state’s highest civilian honor, in 1999. In addition to serving on the SCPA board since 2001, including 10 years as chairman, Stern serves on the Ameris Bank and Ameris Bancorp Corporate board of directors. He is active in the work of his synagogue, a member of the SC Coordinating Council for Economic Development, and United Jewish Welfare Federation. Stern studied business at the University of Miami and the University of South Carolina.
