The Florence County Planning Department has received the Outstanding Planning Project (Implementation) award from the South Carolina Chapter of the American Planning Association (SCAPA).
The project was to perform the first Comprehensive Study of the Pee Dee Regional Transportation Authority’s (PDRTA) service area and operations. The Planning Department team was able to fund this project with 100 percent federal funding, through the Florence Area Transportation Study (FLATS), which is hosted by Florence County.
This study was done in partnership with PDRTA, FLATS, Kimley-Horn, and Florence County. By securing 100 percent federal funding, it was a significant cost savings to both PDRTA and Florence County. The study produced valuable information and recommendations, which have already had a positive effect on PDRTA and the Florence area, county officials said.
