Thomas & Hutton (T&H), a privately held and employee-owned professional services firm known for its award-winning culture and 80 years of shaping communities across the Southeast, has received Project of the Year Awards from both the South Carolina and Lowcountry Chapters of the American Public Works Association (APWA) for the Central Park Road Drainage Improvements Project in Charleston.

The APWA Project of the Year Awards recognizes excellence in the management, administration, and implementation of public works projects that deliver lasting benefits to the communities they serve. T&H earned recognition in the Projects Less Than $5 Million – Environmental category for delivering a resilient stormwater solution that addresses recurring tidal flooding while improving public safety and quality of life.

Working alongside Charleston County Public Works and project partners, T&H designed improvements that reduce flooding along Central Park Road by raising the roadway, upsizing drainage infrastructure, and installing tidal controls that help prevent higher-than-normal tides from inundating the corridor. Funded through a partnership of federal, state, and county resources, the project provides more reliable access for residents while strengthening the community's resilience to future flooding.

"The Central Park Road Drainage Improvements Project demonstrates what can be achieved through strong collaboration and a shared commitment to resilience," said Hillary Aton, PE, principal and project manager at T&H. "We've been honored to see the project recognized and are proud of the lasting flood relief and infrastructure improvements it delivers for the community."

T&H shares these awards with Charleston County Public Works, Truluck Construction, and the many partners and stakeholders whose collaboration made the project possible. Together, the team delivered infrastructure improvements that will benefit the Charleston community for years to come.
