For many families, access to quality healthcare means more than convenience — it means peace of mind, dignity, and the reassurance that care is close to home when it matters most. That vision became a reality this spring as Matrix Construction completed the new Rosa Clark Medical Clinic facility in Oconee County.
Located at 130 Development Drive in West Union, the new two-story, 9,512-square-foot clinic officially opened in April 2026, creating a welcoming space where residents can access essential medical, dental, imaging, and pharmacy services all under one roof.
Built for Rosa Clark Health Center under the leadership of CEO Vicki A. Thompson, the project represents a continued commitment to serving rural communities throughout the Upstate.
“It was a joy to work with Matrix on this project. They were professional, responsive, and flexible,” said Vicki Thompson. She continued, “We had some twists and turns due to grant requirements, and Jimmy Lee and Shane McCall were extremely helpful. Hew King is an excellent builder and strives for excellence every step of the way.”
The new facility marks an important return of expanded healthcare services to the Walhalla area, helping ensure patients no longer have to travel far from home to receive the care they need.
Designed by Ard, Wood, Holcombe & Slate, Inc. and constructed by Matrix Construction, the clinic was carefully developed to feel both functional and inviting — a place designed with patients, providers, and families in mind from the very beginning.
From the moment visitors enter the light-filled, two-story lobby and waiting area, the building was intended to create a sense of comfort and care. The first floor includes exam rooms, provider and nurse offices, laboratory space, and a complete pharmacy, while the second floor houses a full dental practice with treatment rooms, imaging and X-ray services, sterilization and lab areas, staff support spaces, and a large meeting room for community and organizational use.
The project included full site development, parking and drive construction, and the installation of all new mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems. The structure combines conventional wood framing with partial steel construction and was designed to support the clinic’s long-term operational needs and future growth.
“This project is about much more than constructing a building,” said Hew King, president of Matrix Construction. “It’s about helping create a space where people feel cared for, supported, and seen. We are incredibly proud to partner with Rosa Clark Health Center in delivering a facility that will positively impact lives throughout Oconee County for years to come.”
With the completion of the new clinic, Matrix Construction continues its commitment to building spaces that strengthen communities and improve quality of life across South Carolina.
